Events planned for Fourth of July
Thursday, July 3, at the Shiloh Amphitheater, located at 100 Shiloh Drive, things begin at 4 p.m. with family activities, and food vendors until 8:30 p.m., according to the Web site. Fireworks will begin at 9 p.m. If it rains the fireworks will be held on July 4 at 9 p.m.
The City of Washington will have fireworks at the Washington County Fairgrounds at dusk on Friday, July 4, said Washington City Clerk Illa Earnest. If it rains then, the fireworks will be held the following evening at dusk.
“Please pray for no rain,” Earnest said. “It’s drizzled the past couple of years, but fireworks are really the best when the sky is clear and it’s not cloudy.”
On Friday, July 4, Wellman and Wayland have activities planned for the Fourth of July.
In Wellman things will kick off at 8 a.m. with the Freedom 5K walk and run at Parkside Activities Center, according to the city’s Web site. At 9:30 a.m. a kids’ parade will be held. At 10 a.m. the parade will be held. This year’s grand marshal will be Mary Ellen Driscoll. At 1 p.m. there will be a tractor pull in South Park, a horseshoe tournament in North Park, barrel rides and food vendors. From 2 to 4 p.m. water wars will be held. A chicken dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7 p.m. by the Rotary Club in the Parkside Banquet Hall. From 6:30 to 9:35 p.m., live music will be played in the band shell and at 9:35 p.m. the fireworks show will begin.
The City of Wayland will begin activities with the Lions Club breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 4, at the Wayland Community Center, according to the city’s Web site. At 10:30 a.m. the parade will be held rain or shine. This year’s theme for the parade is “Fun in the Sun.” From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. lunch will be served at the Wayland Community Center. At 12 p.m. a kickball tournament will be held at the WACO softball fields. At 12:30 p.m. the firefighter water fights will be held on Main Street. From 4: 30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the Parkview Benefit dinner will be held at 1201 North Jackson Street. Then at dusk the fireworks show will be held at the WACO football field.
Saturday, July 5, the community of Crawfordsville will host its Fun Day celebration, according to The Journal’s Crawfordsville correspondent Billie Jo Rose. Activities begin at 6 a.m. with breakfast at the fire station hosted by the Crawfordsville Fire Department and EMS. The breakfast goes until 9 a.m., and free-will donations will be accepted for the meal. At 8 a.m. the vendor fair will begin. At 10 a.m. the parade will be held. Beginning at 12 p.m. a dodgeball tournament, DJ, and bounce houses will be the activities available for people to participate in. At 4 p.m. a pedal pull will be held and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. the Strait Run Band will play.
