Fair ends today
With the beginning of the annual livestock auction this morning, the Washington County fair is officially drawing to a close for another year.
The remaining item on the agenda for the fair is a teen dance for eighth- through 12th-graders that will be held from 8 to 10:30 p.m. in the county council pavilion.
During the swine show Wednesday morning, Logan Sieren of 76 Progressives won the champion pen of 3 award and Shae Lynn Becker of 76 Progressives got the reserve award. McKenna Brinning of Prairie Pride won the senior showmanship award. Becker won the intermediate showmanship award. Ellie Anderson of Highlanders won the junior showmanship award.
Brody Miller of Limecreek Livewires won the champion single source swine award and Brice Crawford of Crooked Creek won the reserve. Brett Wright of Good Luck won the champion production barrow award and Bryce Greiner of Dutch Creek Flyers had the reserve. Macy Marek of Jackson Jets won the champion home-raised barrow award and Makenzi Marek of Jackson Jets showed the reserve. Callie Greiner of Keota FFA won the champion purchased barrow award and Sage Becker of 76 Progressives had the reserve. Macy Marek won the overall champion barrow and Greiner had the reserve.
Lauren Sieren of 76 Progressives won the champion home-raised market gilt contest and Kolton Greiner of Keota FFA had the reserve. Shae Lynn Becker showed the champion purchased market gilt and Lauren Sieren showed the reserve. Shae Lynn Becker won the award for overall grand champion market swine and Lauren Sieren had the reserve. Taylor Brinning of Prairie Pride showed the overall grand champion breeding gilt and Logan Sieren of 76 Progressives had the reserve.
At the bucket-bottle calf show Wednesday, Brody Miller won the champion junior bucket-bottle calf award and Carter Harmsen of Limecreek Livewires had the reserve. Katie Palmer of Limecreek Limelights won the senior/intermediate bucket-bottle calf contest and Tori Brush of Washington Go-Getters got the reserve.
In the dairy cattle show Wednesday, senior dairy showmanship honors went to Cody Knepp of Mid-Prairie FFA. Kristen Twinam of Prairie Pride won the champion intermediate dairy showmanship award. Lona Farrier of Crooked Creek won the champion junior showmanship contest. Madeline Leichty of Crooked Creek showed the shorthorn champion and Jameson Spenner of Jackson Jets showed the reserve. David Roth of Crooked Creek showed the supreme champion dairy heifer. Xena Knepp of Mid-Prairie FFA showed the champion Ayrshire breed and Knepp showed the reserve. Knepp also showed the reserve Holstein breed champion while Roth showed the champion. Twinam showed the brown Swiss breed champion.
During the market beef show Thursday, Courtney Shalla of Riverside Ramblers was named senior showmanship champion, with Spenser Shalla of Limecreek Livewires getting the reserve. In the intermediate showmanship class, Jaedynn Evans of Riverside Ramblers won and Cody Crawford of Crooked Creek got reserve. In junior showmanship, Jacob Eichelberger of Crooked Creek won and Leah Marek of Jackson Jets was reserve. Ryan Chalupa of 76 progressives showed the champion and reserve champion in the rate of gain contest. He also showed the champion market heifer carcass production class, while Cael Yeggy of Riverside ramblers had the reserve. Erin Chalupa of 76 Progressives showed the champion market steer carcass production class and Logan Sieren of 76 progressives had the reserve. Shalla won the grand champion market beef contest and Maggie Smith of Washington Go-Getters had the reserve. Spenser Ross of Washington Hustlers showed the division IV champion crossbred steer and Jordan Stout of Jackson Jets had the reserve.
Macey Thomann of Riverside Ramblers won the champion produce steer award and Keiffer Sexton of Highlanders showed the reserve. Jameson Spenner of Jackson Jets showed the champion dairy steer and Brent foster of Mid-Prairie FFA had the reserve. Shalla showed the champion market heifer and Aaliyah Brown of Crooked Creek showed the reserve. Roy Carter of Jackson Jets showed the champion market steer – bucket bottle calf and Madison Ross of Washington Hustlers showed the reserve. Leah Marek showed the champion market heifer – bucket bottle calf and Kellie Dallmeyer of Washington Hustlers showed the reserve. Crawford won the champion angus steer class and Matt Colbert of Riverside ramblers was reserve. Jack Carter of Jackson Jets won the champion red angus market steer class while Leah Evans of Washington Go-Getters was reserve.
Riley Hahn of Limecreek Livewires showed the champion charolais market steer and Morgan Brinning of Prairie Pride showed the reserve. Laura Yoder of Kalona Klassics showed the champion Chianina market steer and Dallmeyer showed the reserve. James Colbert of Riverside Ramblers showed the champion Maine-Anjou market steer and McKenna Brinning of Prairie Pride showed the reserve. Kyle Thomann of Riverside ramblers showed the champion Simmental steer and Dana Simon of Riverside ramblers showed the reserve.
Madison Ross of Washington Hustlers showed the champion shorthorn steer. Haley Sweeting of Riverside Ramblers showed the champion shorthorn plus steer and Chase Litchfield showed the reserve. Anthony Campbell of Crooked Creek showed the champion share-a-calf and Matthew Leichty of Crooked Creek showed the reserve. Chelsey Lampe of Riverside Ramblers won the division 1 champion crossbred steer and Emma Eubanks of Crooked Creek had the reserve. Shalla shoed the division II champion crossbred steer and Smith showed the reserve. Tanner Knupp of Washington Go-Getters showed the division III champion crossbred steer and James Colbert showed the reserve.
