Fairfield man killed in vehicle accident
FAIRFIELD — Neville L. Wiggins, 40, of Fairfield was killed in a vehicle accident Tuesday on Highway 34 east of Cedar Avenue.
According to the Iowa State Patrol report, Wiggins was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban east in the right-hand lane on Highway 34 at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday.
He collided with the back of a 2006 Ford F150 pickup, driven by Fred A. Clubb, 52, of Batavia, who also was driving east in the right-hand lane on Highway 34.
Clubb’s Ford came to rest in the median.
Wiggins’ Chevrolet rolled and came to rest in the south ditch.
According to the Iowa State Patrol’s crash report, Wiggins was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle. He was transported by ambulance to Jefferson County Health Center.
The accident remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were Batavia fire and first responders, Fairfield Fire Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Midwest Ambulance.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant.
