Festival of Talents held Wednesday
The Festival of Talents was held Wednesday night, July 17, during the Washington County Fair at the Washington Community Center.
Audience members might have thought they were at the Iowa State Fair. Bill Riley Jr. came to observe the show and announced the performing acts. Riley said that the State Fair Talent Show is marking its 54th year. He said there are about 100 local shows held throughout the state sending representatives to compete at the state-fair level. Washington's talent show is considered to be one of the top shows held in the state.
Miss Iowa 2012, Mariah Cary, made a special appearance and handed out the awards. Cary told spectators that winning the Washington show was the first time she had qualified to compete at the state-fair level as a sprout and a senior contestant.
The winners in this year's show were: Senior division first place, tap solo by Kilie Akers; second place, clog group, Johanna Vittetoe, Shari Temple, Holly Vittetoe, Brittany Sholl and Brianna Ballard-Goldman; third place, clog duet, Tympest Crawford and Taylor Leichty. The State Fair representative in the Senior division is a clog group, Maddie Kleese, Emma Stout, Kaylee Vogel, Jami TeBockhorst and Makenna Burdock.
The Sprout division winners are: first place and Sprout State Fair representative, Elizabeth Kalm, jazz/acro solo; second place, Kaelyn Townsley, jazz solo; and third place, Ellie Weiss, jazz/acro solo.
