FFA holds awards banquet
The Washington FFA chapter held its annual banquet Tuesday, April 8, at 6:30 p.m. The FFA members were invited to bring their family and a dish to share for the potluck, and the FFA provided pork loin.
The Iowa FFA president Steven Brockshus was present at the banquet and spoke about making the most of opportunities.
Members were recognized for their contributions and accomplishments. McKenna Brinning received the star Greenhand award. This award is given to the chapter's most active first-year member who has a strong supervised agricultural experience (SAE) and has demonstrated leadership. Travis Friese and Macy Marek received the Star chapter awards, which are given to second-year members who have proven outstanding achievement in their SAEs. Friese was in the Production of Agriculture SAE and is an active participant in the Land Lab. Marek received the Star in Placement in show-pig production. Jacqueline Spenner received the Most Valuable Member Award. This goes to the chapter member who is most involved in chapter operations who is not an officer. Mitchell Hora received the Agricultural Accomplishment Award. this is the highest agricultural award the school can present.
The chapter presented Honorary Degrees to citizens who have helped the FFA chapter throughout the years. These degrees went to Brian Hora, Nancy Clawson, Craig Dalrymple and Jeff Hazelett.
The retiring officer team received recognition plaques for all of their service. The 2014-15 officer team were installed: president, Tanner Knupp; vice president, Brad Skubal; secretary, Holly Vittetoe, treasurer, Macy Marek; reporter, McKenna Brinning, and sentinel, Ty Stender. The evening was concluded with a end-of-the-year slide show prepared by Macy Marek.
