Fleur de Lis Club

May 01, 2014

Seven Fleur de Lis Club members and guest, Christine Birney Doonan and baby daughter Bristol, met at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the home of hostess Linda Birney.

Nancy Kimmel, president, presided over a short business meeting. Roll call was answered with each telling of a hobby they enjoy now or in the past. The secretary and treasurer reports were given by Linda Birney. Bills were presented by Bev Crandall.

The Remembrance Committee was announced by the president and will be Bev Krotz and Pat Stout for the coming year. New program books were passed out by vice president Marie Hora and reviewed. Club dues were collected for the coming year. Nancy Kimmel read a poem titled Rules for a Garden.

Since the hobby of the hostess is genealogy, she explained that genealogy is more than gathering of names and dates. She shared ancestral charts and framed photos containing wedding certificates, pictures as well as a plat map of Jackson Township showing family farmsteads. Several handouts including a cousin finder and a five-generation chart were given to members to complete for their own families. Each member, having two sets of grandparents, then shared what their grandparents' surnames were.

The next meeting will be Thursday, May 22, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. with Nancy Kimmel as hostess.
