Four arrested in string of thefts

Washington County Sheriff’s Office reports ring stole over $340,000 of property

Four Washington men remain in the Washington County Jail today after being arrested Monday for multiple felony counts in connection with the theft or damage of an estimated $340,000 worth of property.
The arrests bring to an end an investigation into thefts and criminal mischief in Washington, Johnson, Louisa and Henry counties that has been ongoing for several months. On Feb. 20 the Washington County Sheriff’s Office executed two search warrants in the City of Washington and one in rural Washington County in reference to the investigation. On Feb. 21, a fourth warrant was executed in rural Washington County. The arrests were a result of evidence gathered.
Nathan Douglas Mueller, 22, of Washington, is charged with one Class B felony, seven Class C felonies, 12 Class D felonies and 11 misdemeanors. According to the police log he was charged with ongoing criminal conduct, third degree theft, fourth degree criminal mischief, four counts of first degree theft, two counts of second degree burglary, third degree burglary, two counts of second degree theft and criminal mischief, three counts of trespass and theft, criminal mischief and driving under suspension, second degree criminal mischief and trespass, aiding and abetting first degree theft and criminal mischief, aiding and abetting second degree theft and aiding and abetting criminal mischief. He faces up to 158 years in prison and is being held on $154,800 bond.
Michael Patrick Mueller, 19, of Washington, is charged with one Class B felony, five Class C felonies, seven Class D felonies and three misdemeanors. The police log said the charges include ongoing criminal conduct, three counts of first degree theft, second degree burglary, third degree burglary, two counts of trespassing, second degree criminal mischief, aiding and abetting second degree theft, two counts of aiding and abetting second degree criminal mischief, and aiding and abetting first-degree theft. He faces 115 years in prison and is being held on $105,900 bond.
Travis Alan Peterson, 21, of Washington, is charged with one Class B felony, six Class C felonies, 11 Class D felonies, and eight misdemeanors. The police log says the charges include ongoing criminal conduct, third degree theft, criminal mischief, three counts of first degree theft, two counts of second degree burglary, third degree burglary, three counts of second degree theft, two counts of second degree criminal mischief, trespass, four counts of trespass and criminal mischief, two counts of aiding and abetting theft, and two counts of aiding and abetting criminal mischief. He faces 143 years in prison.
Alexander Lee Fields, 19, of Washington, is charged with one Class C felony and two Class D felonies. The police log reports he is charged with theft, burglary and criminal mischief. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
A press release reports that some of the items reported taken include passenger vehicles, semi, an ATV, a riding lawnmower and numerous hand and power tools.
Agencies assisting in the investigation include the Washington Police Department, Washington County Conservation, Washington County Attorney’s Office, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa City Police Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, and LEIN Region 6.
