Frier named to 4-H Hall of Fame
Jim Frier of Washington is the 2013 Washington County 4-H Hall of Fame inductee. Frier served for many years as the Washington County Extension director.
Nancy Adrian, Washington County Extension administrative assistant, introduced Frier. She told the crowd gathered at the Washington County Fair Thursday that Washington County has the third highest membership numbers in the state of Iowa. She said that Frier played a vital role in the success of 4-H in Washington County.
Adrian said that she interviewed Frier before the announcement. He told her that he told his children to find a job they love doing and it won't feel like work. She also said that among Frier's accomplishments are the bucket-bottle calf project, Master Gardeners program, and a horse trail ride event at the fair.
As the director, Frier said that he always asked what could be added to the county fair and what could be improved when the annual fair evaluation meeting was held. That's where many of the new events were launched.
