Garrels wins 2013 Flying Pigs Duathlon
The 2013 Flying Pigs Duathlon took place 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, and was the first event of Celebrate Washington.
The overall male winner was Damien Garrels with a time of 1 hour, 24 minutes and 53 seconds. Garrels placed first in the 30-39 age category. The female champion was Elaine Claude, who clocked in at 1:42.24. Claude also finished top of her 40-49 age group.
The other women’s individual winner for the 30-39 range, was Megan Jones-Schiebel with a 1:44.59 time.
The men’s solo placements were Andy Hall, 19-29 age, 1:28.56. Troy Riley won the 40-49 range with a time of 1:29:36. To round out the age groups, Brian Simmons won the 50-59 range with a 1:47:37 mark.
The team of two champions were Nic Sabatke and Kierstan Peck with a 1:34:07 time. The team of three — Beth Hammond, Harald Gruber and Rick Louder — clocked in at 1:37:06.
