Girls hit the track at Central Indoor
PELLA – The Columbus Community High School, Iowa Mennonite School, WACO High School and Washington High School girls’ track teams all took part in the Central College Indoor Meet on Saturday, March 22 on the campus of Central College.
In the 200-meter dash Macy Marek of Washington took third place with her time of 27.76. The Demons’ Kelly Wheeler finished 27th in 29.75. Makenzi Marek of Washington placed 50th at 30.61. Demon runner Kaitlin Roush was 95th in 32.37.
In the 400-meter dash, Halle Kissell of WACO took 16th place with her time of 1:08.09. Jessica Cruz of Columbus Community finished 32nd in 1:11.53. Rebeca Neri of the Wildcats placed 39th in 1:12.66. Mckenna Reighard of Washington finished 56th at 1:17.77. Alexis Turner of the Demons finished 57th in 1:17.88. Washington’s Hanna Purner placed 66th at 1:19.85.
For the 800-meter run Kylie Marin of Columbus was the top finisher of the area girls as she took 27th place in 2:44.62. WACO’s Kissell finished 31st at 2:48.48. Stephanie Loy of Washington was 34th at 2:49.53. Jasmine Mares of the Demons finished 47th in 2:58.87. Washington’s Aubrey Zimmer placed 60th at 3:05.34. Ashley Canny of the Wildcats placed 69th in 3:11.07. The Warriors’ Libby Skriver was 70th at 3:11.37. The Demons’ Stephanie Gutierrez finished 76th in 3:16.56.
Four area girls placed in the 1,500-meter run. Taylor Hills of Columbus was the first of the quartet to finish, with a time of 5:37.53, which put her 19th in the field overall. Hills’ Wildcat teammate Canny was next, in 40th place at 6:28.81. Sammie Landstrum of Washington finished 44th in 6:49.21. Maggie Voss of the Demons placed 49th in 6:59.93.
For the 3,000-meter run, Riley Schmeider of IMS took 11th place with her time of 11:58.1.
The relays were another opportunity for the girls to work on their times. In the 4x200-meter relay Washington got an eighth-place finish from the team of Dema Giardino, Isabella Giardino, Morgan Kimball and Wheeler with a time of 1:58.18. The Demons also placed 17th as the foursome of Victoria Barber, Addison Gaal, Lexi Redlinger, Amber Salow finished in 2:02.39. WACO’s team of Aaliyah Brown, Angel Frier, L. Skriver and Rosemary Skriver finished 30th at 2:05.83. Washington also had a team place 40th with a time of 2:08.9. That team was Mariah Howard, Emme Keith, Loy and Mares. The final area placement was again a Demon squad, composed of Cheyenne Davis, McKayla Miller, Addison Pacha and Zimmer. That team placed 59th in 2:22.15.
For the 4x400-meter relay, a trio of Washington teams two Washington teams both finished in the top 12. In ninth place the team of Barber, D. Giardino, Howard and Salow crossed the line after 4:40. The 11th-place foursome included Gaal, Keith, Kimball and Macy Marek. That team finished in 4:41.6.
In the 4x800-meter relay, Washington got a 13th-place performance from the team of Howard, Keith, Kimball and Loy in 11:03.19. The Demons also had a team finish just a few seconds later, in 16th place at 11:22.04. That team consisted of Barber, Mares, Turner and Zimmer. Columbus’ team placed 19th in 11:42.7. That squad was Cruz, Hills, Marin and Neri.
Moving onto the field events, the high jump featured two area competitors. R. Skriver of WACO tied for ninth with her jump of 4-8. Macey Marek of Washington placed 26th at 4-4.
For the long jump Demon Makenzi Marek tied for 17th at 14-1. Washington’s Salow tied for 19th at 14’.The Demons’ Gaal took 26th place at 13-7.
Finally, six Washington girls placed in the shot put. Miller placed 33rd with her throw of 28-7. Pacha took 39th place at 28-1. Makenna Goodwin placed 47th with a throw of 26-8. Macenzee Schwab was 57th at 25-1. Joceline Spenner took 59th place at 24-2. Libby Schnicker placed 78th with a throw of 19-7.
