Knutson finished the dash in 1:18:09, which placed her 64th in the field of 74 girls.

The 2014 Demon Indoor Girls’ Track and Field Meet was a showcase of the best talent from across Iowa in high school girls’ track and field. Girls from Highland, WACO and Washington high schools were among the participants at the Recreation Building on the campus of the University of Iowa on Tuesday, March 4.
“It was a good practice for us. We saw some work that we need to do but overall a very good meet for us,” Washington head coach Stephanie Tschantz said, “We were missing several varsity runners yet because they just finished basketball tonight but we’ll be at full-strength soon.”
Despite the fact that it’s very early in the season and most of the girls saw their first action of the spring, Highland’s coaches Dan Dickel and Angie Stroebel are optimistic about the Huskies this year.
“Yesterday was our first official practice so it’s very early. We brought the girls that qualified for state last year, so this is kind of a bonus meet for them. I really think that we are going to be strong in our sprints and we’ve found a really good hurdler. We’re off to a good start,” Dickel said.
“The girls we had compete for us did a really good job of running. Running on that track is a completely different task mentally as compared to running the halls at the school. The girls overcame that and I was proud of their adapting to the setting. We have a lot of potential and some great depth. I’m excited about the coming season,” WACO head coach Cinda Blake said.
The boys will have their turn on Thursday, March 6. The event will begin promptly at 5 P.M. at the Recreation Building on the campus of the University of Iowa.
