Golden Hawk trio given All-Conference honors
The River Valley Conference has announced its All-Conference selections for the 2013 – 14 girls’ basketball season.
Junior Taylor Kurtz represents Mid-Prairie for the South Division first team. Kurtz finished the season with 264 points scored, 203 rebounds, 25 steals, 20 blocked shots and 13 assists. Her rebounds were the second-most in the conference and her blocks were the fourth-most.
Kurtz shot an impressive 57 percent from the field (114/200) on the season and went 36/77 from the free-throw line. Her field-goal percentage was the second-best in the conference among girls who played at least five games during the season.
Playing in all 21 of the Golden Hawks’ games, Kurtz’s averages were 12.6 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.19 steals, 0.95 blocks and 0.62 assists.
Junior Ali Riggan and senior Courtney Cayton were selected for honorable mention. Riggan finished the season with 103 points, 26 assists, 10 rebounds and 10 steals. Riggan went 34/104 from the field, 25/78 from 3-point range and 10/17 from the foul line. Riggan averaged 7.9 points, two assists, 0.77 rebounds and 0.77 steals in 13 games.
Cayton scored 47 points, grabbed 64 rebounds, made 31 assists, stole the ball 16 times and blocked a shot in her final season at Mid-Prairie. She went 18/57 from the field and 11/25 at the charity stripe. Cayton’s averages in the 20 games she played in were 3.2 rebounds, 2.4 points, 1.55 assists and 0.8 steals.
