Golden Hawk wrestlers struggle at Wilton
WILTON - The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk varsity wrestling team fell at Wilton on Thursday, losing to the Beavers 59 – 18.
Freshman Duncan McCain was the first on the mat for Mid-Prairie at 106 pounds and lost a 5-2 decision to Wilton’s Tanner Greenwald. At 113 pounds junior Josh Murphy got a forfeit to put Mid-Prairie in the lead 6-3.
The Beavers’ Owen Anderson proceeded to pin Golden Hawk freshman Blake Murphy in 2:00 in a 120-pound bout to put Wilton back in front 9-6. Brady Ruden of Wilton got a forfeit at 126 to extend the Beaver lead to 15-6.
In the 132-pound match, Wilton’s Logan Mays pinned Mid-Prairie freshman Alec Rauch in 0:00. With the Beavers leading 21-6, Wilton got two more forfeits at 138 and 145 pounds to increase their advantage to 33-6.
Visouth Peterschmidt, a Golden Hawk freshman who wrestled at 152 pounds, lost by technical fall 16-1 to the Beavers’ Kaleb Schmidt. Bryce Oveson of Wilton then wrapped up the meet victory for the Beavers with his 3-1 decision over Mid-Prairie sophomore Miguel Sanchez.
The Beavers’ Koy Snider pinned Golden Hawk senior Eesaa Baylor in 0:00 at 170 pounds. Phirom Peterschmidt, a senior who wrestled at 182 pounds, got the Golden Hawks back on the board with his pin of Gage Hilty in 0:00.
Mid-Prairie’s Levi Duwa got a forfeit at 195. Wilton got forfeits at 220 and 285 pounds to wrap up the event.
The Golden Hawk wrestling team will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Center Point-Urbana.
