Golden Hawks avenge loss to West Branch
WELLMAN — No. 4 Mid-Prairie bounced back from Thursday’s loss and avenged a loss from earlier in the season when it defeated visiting West Branch 46-31 on Friday night inside Tim Grady Gymnasium.
The Golden Hawks (8-3, 6-2 Cedar Valley Conference) held the Bears, who had defeated Mid-Prairie 48-42 in West Branch on Dec. 4, without a field goal for the first 10 minutes of the game and led by as many as 17 points in the victory.
“This was a great bounce-back win for our kids,” Mid-Prairie head coach Marc Pennington said. “After struggling against Clear Creek-Amana [on Thursday], they really set the tone from the opening tip and made West Branch uncomfortable for 32 minutes.”
Senior Mallory McArtor scored a season-high 17 points and grabbed a season-high eight rebounds to lead the Golden Hawks, and she also had four steals and three assists. Sophomore Taylor Kurtz added 10 points, and senior Meghan Redlinger had three points to go with six rebounds, five steals and three assists.
Senior Kelley Trimble scored nine points to lead the Bears (9-4, 6-2 CVC).
