Golden Hawks pull away from South Tama
WELLMAN — Mid-Prairie led South Tama by just five points heading into the fourth quarter of Saturday’s Class 3A Region 6 quarterfinal inside Tim Grady Gymnasium, but the Golden Hawks out-scored the Trojans 13-4 in the final eight minutes to pull away for a 54-40 win.
Senior Mariah Swartzentruber scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Golden Hawks, and she also grabbed nine rebounds. Senior Olivia Lugar came off the Mid-Prairie bench to add nine points, and senior Jessie Butters chipped in seven points and eight rebounds.
Senior Kaleigh Sleck scored 21 points to lead South Tama, which finished its season with a record of 11-11. Senior Jade Rohach added 10 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and four steals for the Trojans.
Mid-Prairie (16-6) will host Collins-Maxwell-Baxter (9-14) in Wednesday’s regional semifinal.
