Golden Hawks send three wrestlers to districts
VINTON — Mid-Prairie crowned one champion and had a pair of runners-up at Saturday’s Class 2A sectional tournament at Vinton-Shellsburg.
Senior Nearoth Peterschmidt, who is ranked 10th at 195 pounds, cruised to the sectional championship by pinning both of his opponents.
His brother, junior Phirom Peterschmidt, was runner-up at 182 pounds. The younger Peterschmidt won a 12-3 major decision over Union sophomore Tanner Shirk in the semifinals, but lost by technical fall to second-ranked Chase Shedenheim of Denver-Tripoli in the finals.
Sophomore 113-pounder Josh Murphy was also a runner-up. He pinned Center Point-Urbana freshman Alex Crandall in the semifinals, but was pinned by Union sophomore Ryder Albertsen in the finals.
Sixth-ranked Union won the sectional team title with 243 points, and ninth-ranked Union took second place with 213.5 points. Mid-Prairie finished fifth in the team standings with 129 points.
