Golden Hawks take fifth place at Creek Classic Relays
TIFFIN — The Mid-Prairie girls’ track and field team took fifth place out of seven teams in Class A at the Creek Classic Relays at Clear Creek-Amana on Friday.
The Golden Hawks scored 80 points. The host Clippers won Class A with 112 points.
Mid-Prairie only won one event at the meet, the 4x100 relay. The quartet of Lexi Duwa, Faithe Garza, Kattie Redlinger and Meghan Redlinger won the race in 51.68 seconds.
The Golden Hawks placed in many other events, though. Taylor Kurtz took second place in the discus competition with a throw of 114 feet, 3 inches, and teammate Ashley Goll placed fourth with a toss of 110 feet, 7 inches. Erika Gingerich took fourth place in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 7.5 inches.
Garza took second place in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:12.17. Kattie Redlinger took third in the 100-meter dash in 13.38 seconds, and Garza finished sixth in 13.89 seconds. Meghan Redlinger came in fourth in the 200-meter dash in 28.81 seconds, and Sadie Goll was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:09.93. Hannah Van Roekel finished fifth in both the 800-meter run (2:54.00) and the 3,000-meter run (13:03.30).
Mid-Prairie’s sprint medley relay team of Duwa, Arissa Marine, Jessie Butters and Mallory McArtor took second place in 1:57.80, and the distance medley squad of Duwa, Courtney Shalla, McArtor and Tayler Foster finished third in 4:44.34. The quartet of Duwa, Butters, Kattie Redlinger and Meghan Redlinger took third place in the 4x200 relay in 1:54.47, and the 4x800 relay team of Foster, Marine, Butters and McArtor was third in 10:34.50.
The Golden Hawk girls travel to the Tipton Invitational on Friday. That meet will begin at 4:30 p.m.
