Golden Hawks win two of three
The Mid-Prairie girls’ varsity basketball team has played a trio of River Valley Conference games in the last four days. On Friday, Feb. 7 the Golden Hawks downed Wilton 43 – 29 at home. On Saturday, Feb. 7 Mid-Prairie fell to Cascade 43 – 36. On Monday, Feb. 10 the Golden Hawks played at No. 12 Northeast and won 41 - 38.
On Friday night the Golden Hawks were up 22 – 20 at halftime on Wilton. A strong defensive effort in the second half by Mid-Prairie allowed Wilton to put up only nine points in the second half to secure the win. Scoring was led by junior Taylor Kurtz with 14.
In Saturday’s game the Golden Hawks were set up with a test against second-ranked and undefeated Cascade. A 20 – 17 halftime lead held by Cascade was expanded upon in the third quarter when Cascade outscored Mid-Prairie 12 – 8 and that was all the advantage Cascade needed. Kurtz scored 13 to lead the way.
Monday night the Golden Hawks took an 11 – 8 first-quarter lead then matched Northeast basket for basket the rest of the way. Kurtz scored 15 points and sophomore Alex Rath added 11.
The Golden Hawks are now 10 – 8 overall, 10 – 6 in the River Valley Conference. Mid-Prairie hosts Camanche on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
