In spite of inclement weather, six members of the H.J. Club met Feb. 20, 2014, in the meeting room of the Kalona Bakery for their monthly meeting.
Rosemary Pacha of Brighton was a special guest and speaker for the afternoon. Rosemary presented a very interesting program on the history and current status of the Washington County barn quilts. Members enjoyed paging through the beautiful book, Barn Quilts of Washington County, and discussing the various quilt patterns and colors. Rosemary also included a review of the different barn styles seen in Iowa, a short history of her husband’s family in Iowa, and an original reading, My Farm, written for one of her courses. She concluded her very interesting program by showing the ladies a beautiful barn quilt top she has sewn.
After refreshments were selected from the bakery, a brief business meeting was held. Dues were collected from each member present and plans were finalized for hostesses for the monthly meetings in the current year. The remainder of the time was spent in visiting.
