Virginia Tschantz is the proud great-grandmother of Sullivan Leon Turner. Grandparents Rusty and Denise Tschantz are super excited and his parents, Tony and Melissa Turner, are so happy to welcome Sullivan to the family.
Delores Franzen was so happy to hear that her sixth great-grandchild arrived on March 13, 2014. Jimmy and Marci Fox brought baby boy Alaric James home to meet his 3-year-old sister Gabrielle. The family resides in Oregon.
Jim Jewell had some special visitors on Wednesday. Two-year-old Felix and year-old Eloise Bales of Madison, Wis., had lunch with great-grandpa Jim and Rose Ellen Stelton in the Timmins Dining Room. The darling children are the grandchildren of Jim’s son, David Jewell.
Bill and Ellen Perdock are new great-grandparents to baby Oliver, son of granddaughter Christina and Greg Holtzer from North Carolina. Bob and Diane Holtaway from Bedminister, N.J., have gone to meet their grandson.
Margret Steinbeck is in her glory having her daughters, Kirsten and Kortney, in Iowa for a visit. Kirsten flys from Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kortney from Tacoma, Wash., also utilizes the airway. It is always a pleasure to have them visit with their upbeat and happy spirits.
Jamie, Michelle, Sam and Elizabeth Snyder were Thursday morning callers of Margret Steinbeck and daughters Kortney and Kirsten. The Snyders live in the same part of the rural Richland country as the Steinbecks. Everyone liked the sweet and adorable 8-year-old Sam who likes to farm, and 4-year-old Elizabeth who is mom’s helper.
Joyce Edmondson reported she had a wonderful Wednesday at home with family and best friend, Shelly Parker. Joyce’s sons, Jeffrey and Ron, along with grandson Jarrad from California, and Shelly enjoyed lunch from the grill and an afternoon of cribbage, laughter and good times.
Lori, Breanna and Ben Schlatter were here on Thursday morning to see grandma and great-grandma Vivian Wells. Breanna and Ben are excited to board the airplane next week bound for Grandpa and Grandma Schmitz who have been wintering in Texas.
Mallory Hennigan joined her grandmother, Mary Ann Hennigan, for lunch in the Timmins Dining Room. Mallory is the daughter of Matt and Missy and is one of Mary Ann’s 29 grandchildren.
Winners of the Healthy Cooking Contest were Connie Sorrell, Denny Sorrell, and Chris Marshall. The contest rules required that the dish had to be 50 percent healthier by lowering the fat, sugar and salt content with the dish on hand, with original recipe and the healthy exchanges for the panel to taste and judge. The Buffalo Chicken Salad prevailed, followed by the Flourless Brownies and Veggie Burgers taking the top three spots.
The Washington Mennonite Church provided Sunday’s service in the Epworth Chapel. Phyllis Litwiller led the service with the scripture taken from Job. Special music was provided by quartet members, Myron and Martha Graber and Jon and Becky Widmer.
Members of the Avalon House enjoyed a St. Patrick’s potluck in the Day Lounge on Monday. Residents, family members and staff enjoyed the get-together and array of prepared dishes.
Butch Karn, an entertainer from Minnesota, was in the area on Tuesday and gave a wonderful musical program in the Day Lounge. There were a lot of selections from the '40s, '50s and '60s that were played on his keyboard and bass. Some of the audience were swinging and swaying in their chairs to the upbeat tunes. Residents look forward to his next trip to Halcyon House.
