Halcyon invites communityAppreciation Day event scheduled for Sept. 14
Halcyon House is planning a thank you party on Sept. 14 for people in the Washington community as a thank you for ongoing support.
The day kicks off with a bake sale at 10 a.m. A pet show will follow at 10:30 a.m., and a spelling bee will be held at 11:15 a.m. People will get a chance to showcase their talents during a talent show at 1 p.m. In addition, Funny Face Designs will be doing face paintings. A bouncy house, ring toss and horseshoes will be featured.
“We have a lot of schools that come in and have provided entertainment for the residents over the year,” said Halcyon House marketing director Karen Heineman. “This is our way of being able to say ‘thank you’ to the community at large for helping to provide this throughout the year.”
The entire community is invited to the event, Heineman said, and the residents would love to have everyone come out.
She said musical acts from the schools as well as volunteers from Washington, Keota and Wayland regularly perform for the residents. She said the residents really look forward to the activities.
As the planning is progressing, Heineman said that Halcyon House is still looking for people to participate in the pet show and the talent show. Heineman said the talent show is expected to be the “most fun event of the day.” She said that there are already people signed up to perform such things as line dancing, magic acts, and songs.
Lunch will be served between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and will include pork loin sandwiches or walking tacos. Cotton candy, kettle corn and slushies will also be served for a nominal fee.
In the past, Halcyon House had held the Buckskinner Rendezvous and Washington Has Talent as events for the community. Heineman said this is something a bit different this year. She said it is meant to be a great “thank you” to the community.
