Highland edges Mepo to stay undefeated in conference play
RIVERSIDE — No. 6 Highland squeaked past visiting Mediapolis for a 2-1 victory in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division softball game on Thursday night.
Sophomore pitcher Katie Springer allowed one run on just three hits as she picked up the win for the Huskies (15-2, 9-0 SEISC North). She struck out nine batters and walked two.
Sophomore Courtnee Hahn had a double and drove in a run for Highland, and sophomore Bridget Murphy doubled and scored. Senior Paige Wieland had a hit and scored a run, while senior Kassie Vazquez and eighth-grader Kelsey Hora added hits.
“We left too many runners on base tonight,” Highland head coach Carrie Wieland said, “but we stayed under control and got the outs we needed. Katie pitched a great game.”
