Highland graduation Sunday
Highland HIgh School has 47 graduates in the class of 2013.
For Highland High School principal Angela Hazelett, the 47 seniors have been a learning curve for her.
“It’s been pretty hectic,” she said. “This is my first graduation ceremony so I don’t know exactly what I’m doing yet.”
Hazelett was still trying to finish up some details for Sunday’s ceremony.
Graduation lineup for the 47 seniors will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the library. Then at 2:30 p.m. the commencement ceremony will begin. This year’s speaker will be Jeff Collins, who is a social studies teacher at Highland High School.
There is one definite valedictorian, Hazelett said.
There is also a possibility of having more than one valedictorian and may be more than one salutatorian, Hazelett said.
“We have two students who are right on that line of the 3.95 or 4.0,” she said.
They won’t be announced until Sunday’s commencement ceremony.
The 2013 class motto is “We tried.” The class flower is the orchid, and the class colors are blaze orange and camouflage.
The class song is “Good Riddance” (Time of Your Life) by Green Day.
There is one thing Hazelett will remember about this year’s class.
“They have been pretty funny and ornery,” she said.
