Highland rallies back to tie Mid-Prairie
WELLMAN — Highland fell behind host Mid-Prairie 7-0 in the opening minutes of Tuesday’s jamboree, but rallied to tie the Golden Hawks 26-26 after two quarters.
Mid-Prairie, which finished 5-19 last season, led 16-10 after one quarter of play and still held a five-point advantage after senior Ryan Hoffman’s driving layup with 1:27 remaining.
Highland senior Talon McFarland converted a three-point play with 37.7 seconds left that cut the lead to two. Highland senior Cameron Vinsand came up with a steal, and senior Jake Hootman slashed to the basket to tie the game with 10 seconds left. Hootman then got a steal, but Mid-Prairie junior Nick Stimson swiped the ball back right before the final buzzer.
McFarland led the Huskies, who finished 6-17 last season, with 10 points, and junior Josh Brase added seven. Juniors Dalton Hall and Reid Miller scored six points apiece for the Golden Hawks.
