Highland's Cole and WACO's Saeugling win sectional titles

MARENGO — Highland crowned one champion and had a pair of runners-up at Saturday’s Class 1A sectional tournament at Iowa Valley.

Junior Travis Cole, who is ranked ninth at 126 pounds, defeated Iowa Valley sophomore Drake Healey by technical fall in the finals to win the sectional championship.

Junior 132-pounder Kody Wood pinned Lone Tree freshman Jake Viner in his quarterfinal match and then won an 8-6 decision over English Valleys sophomore Cody Seaton in the semifinals. But Wood was pinned by Iowa Valley senior Logan Loftus in the finals. Senior Derrick Stewart pinned Lone Tree junior Keaton Kane in 54 seconds in the 152-pound semifinals, but Stewart got pinned by seventh-ranked Tyler Donovan of West Branch in the finals. But both Wood and Stewart advanced to districts as runners-up.

WACO junior Cey Saeugling, who was seeded second at 160 pounds, won a pair of matches to become a sectional champion. He won a 12-5 decision over West Branch junior Justin Roth in the semifinals, and then pinned top-seeded Dillon Fry of Iowa Valley in the finals.

Host Iowa Valley won the sectional team title with 213 points. Highland finished fourth in the team standings with 116.5 points, and WACO was seventh with 40 points.
