Huskie girls fall to SEISC foe Pekin
RIVERSIDE – The Highland High School girls’ varsity basketball team suffered a narrow 61 – 59 defeat to Pekin High School on Thursday, Feb. 6.
Sophomore Cheyanne Adamson led the way with 23 points for the Huskies. Freshman Kelsey Hora had 11 points and junior Chelsey Lampe had 13.
“We lacked focus and communication on defense in the start of the third quarter. They [Pekin] hit quick 3-point shots to get a lead but were able to fight back. We missed 16 free-throws to lose by two points. The girls fought hard but that second quarter really hurt us getting only one point in six minutes. I was proud of the girls and the fight they showed,” Highland head coach Jody Fink said.
The loss drops Highland to 12 – 7 overall, 10 – 7 in SEISC games. The Huskies take the court again on Friday, Feb. 7 at Mediapolis.
