IMS baseball sweeps
After a five-game losing streak, Iowa Mennonite baseball found the answer it needed.
On Tuesday night IMS was able to pick up a doubleheader sweep over WACO, winning 16-4 in game one, while not allowing a hit in the second game, winning 15-0.
“It was really nice to (get the offense going),” IMS head coach Danny Hershberger said. “We had been struggling to score some runs, so hopefully the guys start getting some confidence back at the plate. Hopefully we are getting on the right track after the doubleheader.”
In the first game, IMS put up five runs in each of the second and third innings along with another four in the fourth, to take the victory.
Reggie Hostetler led the way for IMS, going 2-for-4, scoring four runs while driving in four RBIs.
Brent Brenneman, Lane Schrock, Payton Miller, Alexander Ockenfels and Kirby Shetler all had multi-hit games in the first game as well.
In game two, Shetler took the mound and pitched a four-inning no-hitter, allowing four walks and striking out five batters in the game.
The IMS bats were as strong, scoring five runs in the first inning and plating four runs in each of the third and fourth innings to complete the victory and the sweep.
“We feel confident with a bunch of different guys pitching for us,” Hershberger said. “That’s one of our strengths is having a deep pitching staff and having a lot of guys who can go out and get the job done for us.”
IMS will take on Lone Tree on Thursday night, while WACO will travel to take on Highland.
