IMS blows out Wapello 13-0
WAPELLO — The ninth-ranked IMS boys’ soccer team rebounded from a tough season-opening loss with a 13-0 blowout win at Wapello in Thursday’s conference opener.
IMS (1-1) quickly put pressure on Wapello’s defense, and IMS senior Justin Boller opened the scoring when he headed a crossing ball from teammate Spencer Schrock into the goal. Minutes later, Schrock sent another cross into the face of the goal, where it spun into the net for Schrock’s first goal of the season.
IMS went on to score four more goals before the first half ended. Senior Dillon Bender had two goals go go with three assists, while junior Enrique Sanchez added a goal and an assist. Sophomore Kobi Russom, who was playing in his first varsity match, picked up his first career goal.
The second-half scoring opened with an own goal by Wapello, as IMS junior Lane Schrock sent a ball across the box only to have it cleared into the net by an Indian defender. Junior Reggie Hostetler followed with a pair of goals, and Boller added another. Freshman Eli Gingerich scored his first career varsity goal, and a minute later senior defender Cody Miller scored the first varsity goal of his career. Finally, Nikhil Thacker, a senior playing in his first varsity match, scored on a beautiful assist from Gingerich. Sophomore Kirby Shetler added two assists, while senior Peyton Thompson and freshman Miguel Sanchez both added one.
IMS will host Highland on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
