IMS boys, girls split games at Lone Tree
Lone Tree — The Iowa Mennonite School’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams both played at Lone Tree on Friday, Jan. 17. IMS and the Lions split the games, IMS dropping the girls’ game and then winning the boys’ game.
The IMS boys overcame a 10-point first quarter deficit to defeat the Lions 53-42. Dallas Nye totaled 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to lead IMS. Eli Gingerich connected on three 3-point shots, scoring 10 points with two assists. Kirby Shetler scored nine points and had two steals. Zach Hill finished with seven points and four rebounds and Reggie Hostetler tallied six points, had five rebounds and registered two assists. Payton Miller completed the scoring with two points. Tanner Leyden pulled down four rebounds and Nick Yutzy had one assist. The IMS girls let a six-point third-quarter lead slip away and never regained it, falling to the Lions 47-56.
IMS was led by Olivia Yutzy’s 25 points and four rebounds. Riley Schmieder had 15 points and nine rebounds. Kristin Davis had a three to go with six assists and just one turnover. Demi Brezina and Hannah Miller each had two points to complete the scoring. As a team IMS shot 20-23 from the freethrow line. Both teams play at WACO on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
