KALONA — IMS suffered a 46-44 overtime loss to Wapello on Tuesday night inside Hillcrest Union.

IMS (3-8, 3-7 SEISC North) trailed 33-26 entering the fourth quarter, but went on a 14-2 run to take a 40-35 lead with two minutes remaining in regulation. However, missed free throws down the stretch opened the door for Wapello to tie the game on a last-second desperation shot.

Wapello (4-5, 4-5 SEISC North) took that momentum into overtime and built a 46-42 lead before IMS senior Hannah Gingerich hit a jumper to cut the lead to two with a minute left. After a Wapello foul on an over-the-back call, IMS stepped to the free-throw line with 30 seconds to play, but was not able to convert on the front end of a 1-and-1. IMS was forced to foul, and after Wapello missed a free throw, had a final opportunity to tie the score or take the lead. A last-second shot by Gingerich was off the mark, and the Arrows escaped with the overtime victory.

Junior Olivia Yutzy scored 14 points to lead IMS, and she also had nine rebounds and four blocked shots in the contest. Sophomore Hannah Miller added nine points and six assists, and sophomore Riley Schmieder had eight points, four assists and three steals. Junior Kristin Davis contributed seven points, four assists and four steals, and Gingerich finished with six points.

Senior Torrie Blake scored a game-high 15 points on 7-for-10 shooting to lead the Arrows, and she also had six steals and four assists. Sophomore Kristen Keen came off the Wapello bench to add 12 points and five rebounds, and junior Molly Lanz chipped in 10 points.
