IMS girls are victorious twice
After losing their two previous games, the Iowa Mennonite School’s girls’ varsity basketball team has ended their regular season on a high note, winning their last two contests. On Friday, Feb. 7 IMS defeated Wapello 44 – 41, then on Saturday, Feb. 8 they defeated Danville 58 – 33. Both games were home conference games for IMS.
In Friday night’s game IMS got out to a 13 – 2 lead but was then outscored by Wapello 29 – 21 over the next two quarters to create a close 34 – 31 game at the beginning of the fourth quarter with IMS clinging to the narrow lead. IMS was able to match Wapello bucket for bucket in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.
On Saturday IMS used a big second quarter in which they outscored Danville 26 – 7 to take control of the game.
On Friday night IMS senior Olivia Yutzy scored 20 points, which put her over the 1,000-point mark for her career. Yutzy’s classmate Kristin Davis added 11 points. The combination of Davis and Yutzy was effective again on Saturday as they totaled 40 points in the game against Danville.
IMS finishes the regular season at 12 – 9 overall, 11 – 9 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference. IMS is at home for its first game of the regional tournament against Calamus-Wheatland on Thursday, Feb. 13.
