IMS golf teams show improvement
KALONA — Despite playing in cold, rainy and windy conditions, the IMS girls’ and boys’ golf teams both improved their scores in their second meet of the season on Thursday at the Kalona Golf Club.
The IMS girls carded a nine-hole score of 268, which was three strokes better than their season-opening score, but lost to visiting Louisa-Muscatine by 45 strokes. Junior Michaela Prihoda shot a 61 to lead IMS, improving her score by eight strokes since the season opener. Sophomore Breana Stout added a 69, and junior Teresa Miller had a 69. Freshman Jess Bender shot a 71 to round out the scoring.
Junior Jessica Dusek fired a 53 to lead Louisa-Muscatine and take the meet’s medalist honors. Senior Maddison Rankin and freshman Hattie Spies both added a 55, and junior Taylor Tompkins had a 60.
The IMS boys shot a nine-hole score of 243, which was a 14-stroke improvement from the season opener, but still lost to Louisa-Muscatine by 54 strokes. Junior Tanner Leyden carded a 54 to lead IMS, and junior Zach Hill had a 57, which was 18 strokes better than his season-opening score. Junior Richard Deming shot a 65, and sophomore Jacob Bruns had a 67 to round out the scoring. Juniors Brent Brenneman and Ben Miller both carded a 71.
Senior Brandon Carle fired a 45 to lead Louisa-Muscatine and earn the meet’s medalist honors. Freshman Jake Bloomer added a 47, and junior Stephen Kruse had a 48. Junior Logan Osborn shot a 49 to round out the scoring for the Falcons.
