IMS splits twin bill at Pekin
PACKWOOD — IMS split a pair of Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division softball games at Pekin on Thursday evening. IMS won the opening game 8-3, but lost the nightcap 13-0 in four innings.
IMS (8-10, 7-8 SEISC North) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after one inning in the opening game, and then broke the game open with a five-run fourth frame.
Sophomore Hannah Miller went 2-for-3 to lead IMS at the plate, while junior Jacayla Litwiller, sophomore Demi Brezina and sophomore Stasia Majerick each added a hit and an RBI. Senior Naomi Miller, senior Keilah Brokaw, junior Casey Perez and sophomore McKayla Brush each added a hit.
Meanwhile, senior Laura Hochstetler kept Pekin from rallying. She allowed three runs, two of which were earned, on just four hits in seven innings of work. She struck out seven batters and walked two.
But it was IMS that was kept quiet in the second game, managing just one hit in a four-inning loss. Miller tripled for her team’s only hit, but was stranded on third base.
Brokaw took the loss for IMS. She gave up seven runs, four of which were earned, on seven hits and three walks in two innings.
IMS will host Keota, WACO and Central Lee for its home tournament on Saturday.
