KALONA — IMS used a 23-12 second-quarter surge to open up a 16-point halftime lead, and from there the home team cruised to a 79-61 win over Highland in its season opener on Tuesday night.

Senior Peyton Thompson scored 19 of his game-high 23 points in the first half to lead IMS (1-0, 1-0 SEISC North), and senior Cameron Gingerich scored 13 of his 20 points in the second half. Junior Dallas Nye added 12 points and eight rebounds. Senior Justin Boller, senior Joel Shetler, junior Reggie Hostetler and junior Zach Hill chipped in six points apiece.

“This was a good win to start the season over a veteran Highland team that will win a lot of games this season,” IMS head coach Dwight Gingerich said.
