Kalona leads effort to develop watershed management authority
The City of Kalona is spearheading efforts to establish a watershed management authority, through a 28E agreement, for the English River region. An introductory meeting on this topic will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at Knoll Ridge Country Club in North English.
At this event, Ryan Schlabaugh, city administrator of Kalona, and Larry Weber, director of IIHR Hydroscience and Engineering at the University of Iowa/Iowa Flood Center, will present on English River flood hazards, available resources, and open up a discussion about the role of cooperative, interagency watershed management authorities.
Representatives of six counties, 16 communities and many governmental, non-governmental and nonprofit agencies have been invited to this event and will be encouraged to join the watershed authority.
