Keota boys claim conference crown
The Keota High School’s eighth-ranked in class 2A boys’ varsity basketball team claimed the South Iowa Cedar Conference championship outright by winning their last two games. On Friday, Feb. 7 the Eagles defeated Montezuma on the road 59 – 53 and on Monday, Feb. 10 Keota got a home win over North Mahaska 63 – 54.
At Montezuma the Eagles got out to a 36 – 27 halftime lead and were able to withstand Montezuma’s comeback attempt in the second half. Senior Kolton Greiner dropped 19 points and senior Luke Lyle added 15.
On Monday night Keota got 20 points from Greiner, 18 from Lyle and 14 from junior Nate Owen to propel them to a big third quarter in which they outscored North Mahaska 20 – 10.
The Eagles are now 19 – 1 overall and 18 – 1 in conference games. Keota finishes its regular season at home against Iowa Valley on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
