Keota falls in extras at league-leading North Mahaska
NEW SHARON — Keota fell just short of an upset victory, which would have been its first win of the season, on Wednesday night at North Mahaska.
The Eagles took the South Iowa Cedar League’s first-place team to extra innings, but fell to the Warhawks 3-2 in nine innings.
Keota (0-12, 0-12 SICL) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but North Mahaska tied the game in the third inning. Both teams scored a run in the fourth, and the score remained tied until the Warhawks won the game in the bottom of the ninth.
Freshman Zach Mousel went 2-for-4 to lead the Eagles at the plate. Sophomore Nate Owen had a hit and an RBI, and senior Kevin Miller also drove in a run. Junior Luke Lyle and sophomore John Mather added hits for Keota.
Senior Brian Berg pitched all nine innings for the Eagles, giving up three runs on five hits. He struck out 10 batters and walked 11.
Junior Trent Roose and sophomore A.J. Hibler drove in runs for the Warhawks (14-2, 11-0 SICL), and Roose picked up the win in relief.
