Keota to graduate 17 on Sunday
The moment that 17 Keota High School seniors have been working 13 years for is only days away, as the Class of 2013 graduation commencement will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the school’s gym.
Keota High School Principal Lisa Brenneman said today that the graduation ceremony will begin at about 1 p.m. with photos of the graduates. She said that of the 17 seniors, 14 are planning to go on to college.
“As you send them out, you know that you have prepared them for the next chapter in their lives,” Brenneman said. “It is exciting to see what they go on to accomplish.”
The ceremony begins with the traditional “Pomp and Circumstance” performed by the Keota Band. Seniors Megan Olson and Lexi Sieren will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Brenneman will present the welcome and acknowledgments. Superintendent Mark Schneider will give an address, followed by senior Jade Redlinger reading a speech titled “Our Time Together.”
Readers Emily Adam and Kevin Weber will announce the Class of 2013. Honor Key Awards will be presented, as will the Valedictorian and Salutatorian. Schneider and Keota School Board President Jared Lyle will award the diplomas. The recessional “I’ll Always Remember You,” by Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana will be performed.
According to the commencement program, the Class of 2013 motto is “Our lives are before us, our past is behind us, but out memories are forever with us” (author unknown). The class flower is the dahlia and the class colors are pink and silver.
