Lampe propels Highland girls over Columbus
COLUMBUS JUNCTION - The Highland girls’ basketball team got a 58 – 38 road victory on Friday, Jan. 17 over the Columbus Community Wildcats, thanks in large part to a near triple-double by junior Chelsey Lampe.
The Huskies outrebounded the Wildcats 35 – 24 in the game. Lampe had 13 of those rebounds to add to her 19 points and nine assists. Lampe also had three steals and two blocks in the game.
The second and fourth quarters were when Highland put distance between itself and Columbus. The Huskies outscored the Wildcats 37 - 20 in those 16 minutes. By comparison, the totals from the first and third quarters were much more even at 21 – 18, Highland holding the slight edge.
Columbus shot 14/51 from the field (27 percent). The Wildcats went 5/14 from the free throw line and 5/16 from behind the arc. Highland shot 20/50 (40 percent) from the field. The Huskies went 3/7 from 3-point range and 9/18 from the charity stripe.
Columbus’ record dropped to 3-11 overall, 2-11 in SEISC play. Highland improved to 9-4 overall, 7-4 in conference. The Wildcats will take the court again at home on Tuesday, Jan. 21 against Pekin. The Huskies will be back in action at home on Tuesday, Jan. 21 against Louisa-Muscatine.
