Learning to fish

Jun 05, 2013
Demondo Dehogus and Wayne Beckler get their lures wet in the upper pond at Marr Park Wednesday morning as part of the annual Izaak Walton League’s handicapped fishing day. Izaak Walton president John Seymour said that the event, which has been held over 40 years, usually draws over 100 special needs people from around the area to learn to fish. Volunteers are on hand to teach the basics of fishing. Lunch is also served during the event. While Seymour said that the league says prizes are given to the person who catches the biggest fish, in reality area restaurants had given about 50 gift certificates that will be distributed.
