Local bowler takes second place at statewide youth tournament
CEDAR RAPIDS — Riley Lambert, a youth bowler from Washington, recently took second place in the boys’ under-12 division in the Iowa state finals of the national Pepsi tournament, which was held at May City Lanes in Cedar Rapids on March 23-24. For his second-place finish, Lambert was awarded a $330 scholarship.
The tournament is scratch competition (no handicap), and Lambert rolled games of 194, 234 and 148 for a 576 series. He missed first place by just 15 pins.
Lambert, the son of Pete and Joyce Lambert, is an 11-year-old member of the Saturday morning Laners I league in Washington. He advanced to the state finals by qualifying through the league in November and then placing third in the district competition that was held the last weekend in January at Washington’s Melody Lanes.
