Local woman dies after car accident Wednesday afternoon
A Washington woman has died after a two-vehicle accident at the north junction of Highway 1 and Highway 92 Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Washington County Communications center call log, the accident was reported at 1:18 p.m. at the north junction of Highway 1 and Highway 92. The vehicles involved in the accident were a car driven by Rosemary Reed, of Washington, and a Department of Transportation truck driven by Kyle Kron, of Washington.
Reed was transported to the Washington County Hospital and then transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals, where she died, according to a pending services notice from the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. A full obituary for Reed will be in Friday’s edition of The Journal.
The accident report from the Iowa State Patrol said Reed was driving eastbound on Highway 92 and she failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection. Her vehicle collided with the state truck Kron was driving northbound on Highway 1 and 92. Reed’s vehicle came to rest in the center turn lane, and Kron’s vehicle came to rest on the northbound shoulder.
Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar said when he arrived on scene he began CPR on Reed. He said the Iowa State Patrol is in charge of the investigation and is still investigating the accident.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Washington Rescue, Washington Fire Department, Washington County Ambulance, and the Iowa State Patrol all responded to the scene, the call log said.
