By Mary Zielinski | Aug 28, 2014
Members of the Mid-Prairie Board of Education Monday saw what was really new at Mid-Prairie Middle School: a hawk mural on the north wall of the gymnasium.  The work, done by artist Craig Jacoba of West Burlington, was done last month. Further work by Jacoba is on the gym’s east wall, and the true piece de resistance are the two on the walls of the high school gym.

WELLMAN — Within about 15 minutes Monday the Mid-Prairie Board of Education dealt with routine business and a singe agenda item: accepting the low bid for diesel fuel.  The contract was awarded to the Kalona Oil Company for the third consecutive years who bid $1.07 per gallon for No. 2 diesel and $2.17 for winter blend.  Other bidder was Hershberger Oil with $1.135 for No. 2 diesel.
In other business, the board accepted the resignations of high school varsity baseball coach Ryan Koller, sevent- grade boys’ basketball coach and girls’ assistant track coach Ryan Duwa, and seventh-grade softball coach Hannah Miller.
They also hired Kara Beatty as high school strength and conditioning coach, fall only, at $1,493.62 and Randy Billups as high school assistant wrestling coach, at $3,436.80.
The board then held a work session that involved touring the Alternative Learning Center in Wellman and the middle and elementary schools in Kalona.
