Maquoketa Valley edges Sigourney-Keota

Oct 25, 2012

DELHI — No. 10 Maquoketa Valley slowed down Sigourney-Keota’s single-wing rushing attack enough to win Wednesday’s Class 1A first-round playoff game 21-14.

Freshman Payton Crawford ran for 93 yards and a touchdown on seven carries for Sigourney-Keota (4-6), and senior Mark Waechter returned from a nearly season-long injury to add 87 yards and a score on 19 attempts. But junior Kolton Greiner, who rushed for 932 yards and nine touchdowns during the regular season, was bottled up and limited to just 16 yards on 10 carries.

Sophomore Cole Streigle led the Savage Cobra defense with 13 tackles, and Greiner made eight stops. Senior Derek Albert and junior Luke Lyle tallied seven tackles apiece, and junior Tucker Fowler recovered a fumble.
