Mattie (Miller) Beachy, 95, of Kalona, died Wednesday, May 3, 2017, in the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 7, in the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church with the Rev. Floyd Helmuth, the Rev. Andy Shimko, and the Rev. Joel Beachy officiating. Burial will follow in the South Gingerich Cemetery in rural Kalona. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday in Sunnyside Church. A memorial fund has been established for the Crowded Closet.

Mrs. Beachy was born May 17, 1921, in Amboy, Indiana, the daughter of Oba J. and Anna (Yoder) Miller. She married Floyd Beachy on Dec. 18, 1941, in Amboy.

She was a member of the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church, where she was active in the sewing circle, and a charter volunteer at the Crowded Closet. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, baking, and was very creative in the way she decorated her home. She was a gifted listener, and that attribute gained her a multitude of friends throughout her life. She will be remembered as a non-judgmental confidant that accepted and loved people unconditionally.

Surviving are five children, Anna Ruth (J. Daniel) Martin of York, Pennsylvania, Wayne (Judy) Beachy of Kalona, Ray (Sue) Beachy of Jackson, New Jersey, John Beachy (Patrea Hamm) of Centerville, and Brent Beachy of Kalona; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lydia (Ernest) Beachy of Kokomo, Indiana, Erma (Ray) Nisly of Goshen, Indiana, and Elsie (Don) Horner of Kokomo; and two sisters-in-law, Marie Miller and Pat Miller of Kokomo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Ada Miller; and five brothers, Dan, Menno, William, Clarence, and Ervin Miller.
