Mid-Prairie adding to art programEnough work was determined to warrant another full-time teacher
WELLMAN — Given details about an art program “that has grown like crazy,” the Mid-Prairie Board of Education Monday agreed it deserves expansion and approved hiring a third full-time art teacher to start this fall. Elementary, middle school and high school principals all recommended the move that will bring art to all student levels. Even the preschool program will be affected.
Part of the representation showed the board the numbers are there to support the position, especially with the Advanced Placement class. The board was told that Mid-Prairie is one of only a few Iowa districts that has an AP art class.
“The interest and the skill are there,” said Middle School Principal Marc Pennington of the students and a similar sentiment was echoed by High school Principal Jim Cayton.
In approving the position, board member Chuck Freeman noted that it was clear there was enough full-time work to more than warrant an additional full-time teacher.
