Mid-Prairie band earns Division 1 rating
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk marching band gave an outstanding performance at State Marching Band Contest on Saturday at Pella High School. The band received its second consecutive Division 1 rating and received its highest overall score at state contest in at least the last 30 years — 781 points. Mid-Prairie was one of only two 2A bands at Pella to receive a Division 1 rating and one of only 19 bands in the state of Iowa to receive a Division 1 rating at the 2013 State Marching Band Contest.
"I am very proud of our performance and all the hard work the students put in to this performance and season," David Kunz said. "Marching band takes tremendous dedication and the students in marching band have demonstrated this since we started marching band camp in August. I know there were moments and days that were less than positive, but in the end all the work, dedication, and sweat paid off."
