WELLMAN - The No. 5 in Class 1A Mid-Prairie boys’ soccer team cruised to its 10th win of the season by defeating Wapello by a score of 14 – 0 on Monday, May 12 in a non-conference match.
It was senior night for the Golden Hawks, and Mid-Prairie had 11 seniors on the field to start the game. Wyatt Cady got two quick goals in the first four minutes to start off the scoring. Austin Errthum and Nick Stimson matched Cady’s two goals on the night each scoring two of their own.
The Golden Hawks had a comfortable 9 – 0 lead at the end of the first half. Andrew Bates, Spencer Shalla, Abduhl Msabah, Maher Sanalla, Wade Stutzman, Dustin Yoder and Anthony Gingerich each added a goal in the Mid-Prairie victory. This brings the goal total for the Golden Hawks to 48 on the year while allowing a mere eight goals to opposing teams in 12 games.
Nathan Faselt played the first 40 minutes as the keeper for Mid-Prairie and had three saves. Dayton Hall stepped in for the second half and contributed another stellar 40 minutes. The stingy Golden Hawk defense again refused to yield any points to an opposing team.
Mid-Prairie improves to 10 – 2 overall, 1 – 2 in River Valley Conference matches. The Golden Hawks will host Highland on Thursday, May 15 in another non-conference match.
