Mid-Prairie boys stumble
IOWA CITY – The Mid-Prairie boys’ varsity basketball team dropped a River Valley conference game to Regina on Saturday, Feb. 1, 70 – 56.
Regina controlled the pace of play nearly all the way through, starting off the game with a 22 – point output in the first quarter. The Golden Hawks did outscore Regina 17 – 14 in the fourth quarter but the deficit was already too large for that to make a difference.
As a team Mid-Prairie shot 36 percent (17/52) from the field, 3/15 from 3-point range and 19/27 from the free-throw line. Regina outrebounded the Golden Hawks 39 - 22. Mid-Prairie also totaled nine assists and 11 steals.
Senior Nick Stimson led the Golden Hawks with three assists. Sophmore Nolan Faselt, senior Spencer Shalla, senior Christian Johnson and senior Dayton Hall all had two steals to lead Mid-Prairie.
The Golden Hawks are now 8 – 8 overall, 7 - 5 in conference games. They are scheduled to play at home against Wilton on Friday, Feb. 7.
