Mid-Prairie loses to New Hampton; plays consolation games today
Mid-Prairie had a heartbreaking loss against New Hampton on Tuesday, at Fort Dodge, ending their bid for the 3A state title.
At the bottom of the first inning New Hampton got the first run on the scoreboard when third baseman Jennifer Akrom scored from an RBI single her teammate Jessica Crooks hit.
For the next five innings neither team would be able to score.
In the top of the seventh inning Mid-Prairie would try to rally a comeback. Third baseman Maddie Kaalberg would be the first up to bat. She hit a triple to right field and got on base. Lexi Duwa would come in and pinch run for Kaalberg. Center fielder Marci Swartzendruber would be walked. Erika Murphy would also be walked. Pitcher Olivia Lugar would hit a fly ball out to centerfield for an RBI. Michelle Erwin would hit a single RBI, which let Murphy score. Mallory McArtor would hit a single and this would let Erwin score. Alex Rath hit a fly ball out to center field, which was caught for the out. Felicia Schulty would hit a fly ball out to center field, which brought in another runner, leaving the score tied 3 – 3.
New Hampton would answer Mid-Prairie’s three runs with one run, scored by center-fielder Raelyn Webster, in the bottom of the seventh inning. This would end the game and knock Mid-Prairie out of the running for the state title.
Mid-Prairie played in the consolation game against East Marshall today at 10 a.m. They beat East Marshall with a score of 8 -3. The results of this game will be in tomorrow’s edition of The Journal. Mid-Prairie Head Coach Justin Lutjen couldn’t be reached for comment.
